One held over 2 pesticide poisoning deaths

The police have arrested Titu Molla, a pesticide company employee, over the death of two young brothers due to poisoning in Dhaka’s Bashundhara residential area.

He was arrested on Monday night, Bhatara police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Bashar Mohammad Asaduzzaman said on Tuesday. “Titu sprayed cockroach killer spray in the house. We are questioning him.”

Mubarak Hossain Tushar, father of the children, filed a case against three people on Monday, Bashar added. “The investigation is underway. After questioning, the number of accused may increase.”

The police and the family said Tushar, a businessman, assigned a pest control company to remove insects from his house in the Bashundhara residential area on Friday.

Later, the employees of that company sprayed insecticides and asked the family members to enter the house after two to three hours. Though the family entered the house nine hours later, they fell sick after inhaling the pesticides.

They were rushed to a private hospital where Shahir Mobarat Zayan, 9, died on Sunday morning and Shayan Mobarat Jahin, 15, died at 10pm on the same day.
