One held over dollar buying-selling illegally

The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested a young man from Dhaka’s Khilkhet area on Tuesday for his alleged involvement with dollar buying and selling illegally.

The arrestee has been identified as Jakir Hossain, 35.

Saifur Rahman Azad, Additional Deputy Commissioner of DB (Cyber and Special Crime Department), confirmed the matter.

He said that Jakir used to open pages on Facebook to buy and sell dollars on different IDs. When the victims contacted the accused on messenger for buying or selling dollars, he took money from them through bKash, Cash, Rocket and various bank accounts and blocked the messenger without giving back dollars to the victims.

“In this case, his target was freelancers because they need dollar in different times for work purposes. Jakir embezzled around Tk 30-35 lakh through different IDs,” he added.

Saifur also requested the general people to refrain from buying and selling dollars in such way.
