One person was killed and 25 others were injured in a road accident when a picnic bus lost control and fell into a ditch in the Ghatkhali area on the Amtali-Kuakata road under Amtali upazila of the district on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Islam, son of Samsuddin Bepari, resident of Chak village of Bandar police station of Narayanganj district.
The accident occurred in the area when the driver of a Kuakata-bound picnic bus from Narayanganj lost control and fell into a roadside ditch at Ghatkhali on the Amtali-Kuakata road area around 5:30am, leaving 26 injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Amtali Police Station Tapu said.
Amtali Fire Service and locals rescued the injured and took them to Amtali Upazila Health Complex.
The Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Amtali Hospital Dr Iram Ahmed said that among the injured, Islam died on the way to Barishal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
The driver and helper of the bus managed to escape.
