A paddy worker was killed while eight others were injured in a truck-microbus collision at the busy Jiar intersection in Joypurhat district's Panchbibi upazila on Tuesday evening, police said on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Rabiul Islam, a resident of Nilphamari district's Domar upazila.
According to eye-witnesses, the accident occurred on Tuesday evening when the speeding truck hit the microbus carrying a group of workers, leaving nine injured.
All the nine were soon rushed to Panchbibi Upazila Health Complex, where Rabiul succumbed to his injuries during treatment, said Dr Masud, a doctor at the emergency department of the hospital.
Three of the injured were later shifted to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital after their condition worsened.
The paddy workers from Mirzaganj in Domar upazila of Nilphamari district were on their way to Natore for cutting paddy when the accident occurred, police said.
