An activist of Swechasebak League, the voluntary wing of Awami League, was stabbed to death in a factional clash in Dhaka's Darussalam area Saturday night.

The deceased Shah Alam, 35, was son of freedom fighter Syed Ali and was from Mograkanda area under Dhaka’s Savar. He used to live as a tenant at Lalkuthi-2 Colony in Darussalam area.

Police and locals said there was a longstanding dispute between former Swechasebak League central committee member Nabil Khan and former Darussalam thana unit president Mohabbat Islam over establishing dominance in the area.

Sheikh Aminul Bashar, officer-in-charge of Darussalam Police Station, said that activists from both groups locked into an altercation Saturday.

The groups again locked into clashes with sharp weapons later on, leaving Shah Alam, from Nabil group, critically injured around 10pm, the OC said.

He was rushed to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. He breathed his last while being moved to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), the OC said, adding that the body was kept at DMCH morgue for autopsy.

Shah Alam's father Syed Ali has filed a murder a case with the police station in this regard, the police officer said, adding that drives are on to nab the accused involved with the murder.
