One person is missing as a sand-laden bulkhead capsized in Barishal's Kirtankhola river after being hit by a Dhaka-bound MV Parabat-11 launch.
The accident took place around 9:30pm on Saturday, said Barishal Sadar River Police Officer-in-charge Abdul Jalil.
The missing employee of the bulkhead was identified as Md Rakib Khan. He is son of Billal Khan of Moranidra area of Taltali upazila of Barguna.
The bottom of the launch has also been affected by the incident. Later, the launch was lifted to the char of Lamchari area of Charbaria union under Sadar upazila, the OC said.
MV Parabat-11 launch’s clerk Md Tuhin said the launch left Barishal for Dhaka with more than 500 passengers.
“The launch was crossing the river's Maqbool Tek area when a bulkhead came in front of it. The bulkhead then turned its direction horizontally,” he said. “The driver of the launch could not maneuver in time and hit the bulkhead.”
The fire service was set to start the search and rescue operation this morning, the OC said.
