The capsized launch ML Morning Bird has been pulled out of the water by the rescue team, with one more body in it, 26 hours after it sank in the Buriganga.
The launch was floated with an airlifting bag at around 11 am on Tuesday. Later it was brought ashore.
The latest recovered body of an unknown male has increased the death toll to 33 in the tragic capsize.
Anisur Rahman, duty officer of the Fire Service headquarters, confirmed the matter to The Business Post.
Earlier on Monday morning, the small launch ML Morning Bird sank in the Buriganga river in Shyambazar area of the capital after another launch MV Moyur-2 had pushed it abruptly.
Morning Bird was going to anchor at Sadarghat from Munshiganj. The Mayur-2 launch was also coming from Chandpur to Sadarghat to unload passengers and anchor at a different place. The collision happened when the launches crossed each other's path.
Meanwhile, a case has been filed against seven people, including Mosaddeq Hanif Soad, owner of the launch MV Moyur-2, which reportedly pushed Morning Bird, causing it to capsize.
Some other unnamed employees of Moyur-2 have also been accused.
The case was filed at the South Keraniganj Police Station Monday night.
The plaintiff Shamsul Alam, sub-inspector (SI) of Sadarghat Naval Police, confirmed the matter to The Business Post.
The accused in the case are: Mayur-2 launch owner Mosaddeq Hanif Soad, staff members Md Abul Bashar and Md Zakir Hossain, engine driver Shipon Hawlader, driver Shakil Hossain, able-seaman (AB) Nasir Mridha and Hridoy, said the plaintiff.
According to the case sources, the case was filed under sections 280, 304(A), 437 and 34 of the Penal Code for killing people and pushing another launch by reckless sailing. Whether the incident was pre-planned or not needs to be investigated, according to the case details.
Earlier on Monday night, divers rescued a man who survived in the water for nearly 13 hours after the launch-capsize incident.
The rescued man was identified as Sumon Bepari, 55, of Abdullapur area under Tongibari thana in Munshiganj.
Sumon was picked up by Coast Guard personnel after being swept away in the river. After being rescued, he fainted. He regained consciousness after taken to the hospital immediately. He has been admitted to the casualty ward of Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital in the capital.
