Online sacrificial animal sale logs record

A record number of sacrificial animals has been sold online this year creating huge response amongst the buyers despite struggle of the inexperienced online shoppers to judge animals on screen primarily.

Almost 27 thousand cows, goats and other sacrificial animals were sold through different online platforms.

However, numbers of cows purchased by the buyers at the house of the farmers or at the farms after seeing photos of those animals online may be three to four times of the figure mentioned above. The aforesaid data was revealed in a joint online press conference hosted by the Dhaka North City Corporation and E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh.

This online press conference was arranged to inform the media about the overall selling of sacrificial animals across the country online and through the online platform for selling sacrificial animals known as ‘Digital Haat’ jointly sponsored by Dhaka North City Corporation and E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh.

It has been informed at the press conference that till today almost 27 thousand sacrificial animals have been sold online across the country. Numbers of cows, goats and sheep sold through digital haat, merchants related to digital haat and E-Cab members amount to 6 thousand 8 hundred. At least 5 thousand 5 hundred cattle were sold through district-based government platform with maximum 517 sacrificial animals sold in Narsingdi district. Numbers of animals sold through the online platforms of the companies who are members of Bangladesh Dairy Farm Association are nearly 9 thousand 5 hundred. On the other hand around 5 hundred Cows were sold through other platforms. The government platform namely ‘Food For Nation’ has been able to track selling of around 4000 cows. From the above mentioned information numbers of animals expressly sold online may be calculated. It is being inferred that another hundred thousand sacrificial animals were sold impliedly through different online platforms and at least five hundred thousand cows were displayed in different platforms including Facebook.

While commenting about the Digital Haat, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said that the combined team of DNCC, ICT Division E-Cab, ISSL, Dhansiri and Sadik Agro has to work day and night in order render this huge arrangement a success. The team has been able to solve different types of complex issues cordially. The Mayor himself supervised arrangement of slaughtering of 4 hundred Cows and he will look after the overall slaughtering at the slaughtering houses in person on Eid day. The Mayor urged the residents of Dhaka not to slaughter their sacrificial animals here and there and also to cooperate the Dhaka North City Corporation as far as removal of wastes are concerned. He also informed that 11 thousand workers of DNCC will remain vigilant for removing wastage amid Eid holiday.

The Mayor said that the Prime Minister is very happy at the initiative taken by DNCC.

The Mayor thanked Ministry of Commerce, ICT Ministry, Ministry of Livestock, Ministry of Local Government, Office of the District Commissioner, E-Cab, Dairy Farm Association, Daraz, Nagad, Mastercard and others concerned with Digital Haat.

President of E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh Shomi Kaiser said that they are going to render their services to the buyers tomorrow after successfully braving different challenges. They had to consider the benefits of both the buyers and the entrepreneurs. This year number of fresh online entrepreneurs have come under the limelight as far as Digital Haat platform is concerned.

President of Bangladesh Dairy Farm Association Mohammad Imran Hossain said that quality had to be ensured step by step in this huge arrangement. They focused particularly on the satisfaction of the buyers in order to make them familiar with the online trading. The buyers in turn kept faith on the newly-introduced online platform.

General Secretary of E-Cab Mohammad Abdul Wahed Tomal said that they had to encounter new challenges in every step while accomplishing the overall process including authenticity of the animal, weight of the animal, whether the animal has any disease and completion of payment at the end of the buyers and farmers. They had to face the challenges in every step in order to move forward.

CEO of Jachai Dot Com Azizul Haq said they have sold 237 cows online. A few buyers have come to the farms to get the delivery of their cows after watching photo of the same online. Everyone is enjoying the positive outputs as a result of DNCC’s effort to create confidence between the sellers and buyers through Digital Haat.

CEO of delivery partner E-Courier Biplob Rahul said that they will send meat within two hours of slaughtering and packing at the address of the buyers. Their vehicles have ice boxes to make sure that the meat does not rot.

Huge tasks of slaughtering, mincing meat, cleaning edible offal, packing and sending the meat to the doorstep of the buyers will be carried out for three days from Eid day at the slaughtering house adjacent to Mohammadpur Beribadh. Hundreds of workers of different institutions will be working to make the Eid a success.
