Opinion sought to form insurance co for govt employees

The government has taken the initiative to form an independent insurance company under the Bangladesh Karmachari Kallyan Board (BKKB) to bring public servants under insurance coverage.

The Ministry of Public Administration on August 3 sent a letter to the secretaries, heads of the departments under the ministry, divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, and upazila nirbahi officers, seeking their opinions regarding the formation of the insurance company.

They have been asked to submit their opinions by August 27, according to a circular signed by public administration ministry Senior Assistant Secretary Taslima Ali.

On February 15, the Bangladesh Karmachari Kallyan Board in its 35th meeting approved in principle the proposal to form an independent insurance company under the BKKB.

The board meeting also approved the proposal to appoint an insurance expert or organisation as a consultant for the purpose.

On April 11, the BKKB sent a letter to the senior secretary of the public administration ministry seeking its approval to form an independent insurance company and appoint a consultant and determine the scope of work of the consultant.

The Karmachari Kallyan Board has also drafted that public servants will get insurance coverage under Group Health Insurance (Platinum), Group Health Insurance (Gold), and Group Health Insurance (Silver) following the formation of this company.
