Veteran Freedom Fighter and politician Mohammed Shahabuddin was sworn in as the 22nd president of Bangladesh at an impressive ceremony in the packed and historic Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban Monday morning.

Jatiya Sangsad speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath of the office of the president at 11am.

People from all walks of life brought out a joyous procession in Pabna town on the occasion.

Local Awami League leaders and activists and people from different strata watched the swearing-in ceremony of the president on a big screen at the Pabna district Awami League office.

District Awami League President Rezaul Rahim Lal led the procession from its office which ended at the same place after parading different streets in the town.

Sweets were distributed among the local people in the town. A discussion along with prayer was held at the party office.

Rezaul Rahim said, "It is a great day for Pabna residents."

On February 13, the 73-year-old politician was elected as the 22nd president of Bangladesh.

Mohammed Shahabuddin was born on December 10, 1949, in Shibrampur's Jubilee Tank area of Pabna town. His father's name is Sharfuddin Ansari and mother Khairunnessa.

He obtained his MSc degree from Rajshahi University in 1974 and later he passed LLB and BCS (Law) examinations.

Shahabuddin was the general secretary of Pabna Edward College unit of Chhatra League, president of Pabna district Chhatra League and Jubo League later also.

He was the joint secretary of Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League (BKSAL) of the district unit and publicity secretary of the district unit Awami League.
