Controversial former leader of Jubo Mohila League Shamima Nur Papia and her husband Mofizur Rahman Sumon have been sent to jail after remand in a case filed over recovering counterfeit money.

They were placed before the court on Friday by RAB (Rapid Action Battalion) after a five-day remand in the case of recovering counterfeit money from the Airport Police Station. The investigating officer of the case MD Salauddin requested to keep them in jail till the end of the investigation.

Following the appeal, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masdur Rahman ordered them to be sent to jail.

Earlier, in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury, after the remand of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, they were remanded in the case of recovering counterfeit money from Airport Police Station.

On March 11, the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court granted them on a five-day remand each in these two cases. However, they were not remanded due to coronavirus.

Previously on February 22, RAB arrested four people, including Papia, while they were leaving the country from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Later three cases were filed -- two with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station under arms and special powers acts, and one with Biman Bandar Police Station under special powers act.
