Pass rate drops 7.3% compared to last year

The combined pass rate – across 11 education boards – of the 2023 HSC and equivalent examinations is 78.64 per cent, according to the results published on Sunday.

This marks a 7.31 per cent drop compared to 2022’s combined pass rate of 85.95 per cent, reports UNB.

A total of 10,67,852 students passed this year’s exams in all the education boards. The pass rate in nine general education boards stands at 75.9 per cent.

Among the nine education boards, the pass rate in Dhaka Board stands at 79.44 per cent. Chattogram Board’s pass rate is 74.45 per cent and 78.46 per cent in Rajshahi Board.

Meanwhile, 73.4 per cent of students passed in Sylhet Board. The pass rate is 80.65 per cent in Barishal, 75.39 per cent in Cumilla, 70.44 per cent in Mymensingh, 70.44 per cent in Dinajpur, and 69.88 per cent in Jashore boards.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina published the results on Sunday morning after Education Minister Dipu Moni handed over the result summary to her.

Later, chairmen of different education boards handed over the results of their respective boards to the PM.

This year, a total of 13,74,488 students sat for HSC and equivalent exams under 11 education boards across the country from August 17 to September 25.

Number of GPA-5 falls by almost 50%

Meanwhile, a total of 92,595 students secured the highest GPA-5 in the 2023 HSC and equivalent exams – an almost 50 per cent decline compared to 2022, when a total of 1,76,282 students obtained GPA-5.

A total of 78,521 students under nine general education boards achieved GPA-5, 7,097 students under the Madrasah Education Board and 6,977 under the Technical Education Board.

Girls ahead of boys in pass rate, GPA-5

Girls outshined boys this year again with 80.57 per cent of female students passing the exams as against 76.76 per cent of boys.

Girls showed their brilliance in achieving GPA-5 too as 49,365 girls secured GPA-5 against 43,230 boys.

The number of boys who appeared for the exams was high compared to the girls this year. A total of 6,98,135 boys and 6,76,353 girls sat for the exams.

953 institutions achieve 100% success

A total of 953 educational institutions achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in the HSC and equivalent exams, reports BSS.

Of those, 46 institutions are from Dhaka Board, 37 from Rajshahi, 17 from Cumilla, 10 from Jashore, 12 from Chattogram, 13 from Barishal, 13 from Dinajpur and two each from Sylhet and Mymensingh.

The number of 100 per cent successful institutions under the Madrasa Board is 661 and 140 under the Technical Education Board.

A total of 1,330 educational institutions achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in last year’s exams.

42 institutions see 0 pass rate

Meanwhile, not a single student passed from 42 educational institutions across the country in this year’s HSC and equivalent exams, according to the results published.

However, the pass rate has decreased slightly this year compared to last year.

The number of educational institutions with a zero per cent pass rate last year was 50.

Barisal tops with 80.65%

Barisal Board has secured the top position among nine general educational boards with an 80.65 per cent pass rate in this year’s HSC and equivalent exams.

Dhaka Board secured second position with 79.44 pass rate while Rajshahi Board secured third position with 78.46 per cent.

The pass rate of Cumilla Board is 75.39 per cent, while it is 74.48 per cent in Dinajpur, 74.45 per cent in Chattogram, 71.62 per cent in Sylhet, 70.44 per cent in Mymensingh and the lowest 69.88 per cent in Jashore Board, which had come on top last year.
