A bus strike has been called in Chandpur, demanding that all illegal buses stop plying on the Chandpur-Dhaka route.

Bus services from Chandpur bus terminal were stopped on Monday morning, due to which Dhaka-bound passengers are suffering.

Following the strike, many passengers were seen taking alternative modes of transportation to travel to Dhaka.

"We are affected by the illegal vehicles on this regional route. Due to the movement of these illegal buses, accidents happen on the road every day. And we have to pay for the movement of those buses," said Abdul Aziz Dhali, driver of Padma Bus Service.

"We will continue our strike if these illegal buses do not stop operating on the Chandpur- Dhaka route," he said.

"As the authorities did not take any action against the illegal bus service, that's why they're getting away with it," he added.

"These buses are also causing problems by illegally setting counters at the terminal. We want a quick solution to this," said the bus driver.

It is to be noted that 25 Padma buses have been running regularly on the Chandpur-Dhaka route every day for the last two decades.

Sheikh Mohsin Alam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Model Police Station, said, "We came to know about the problem. It was not informed about the strike beforehand. But I'm trying to resolve the matter."
