Pay salaries, Eid bonuses by July 25: State minister

State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian on Wednesday urged all employers to clear the salaries and Eid-ul-Azha bonuses of their employees by July 25.

She made the call while at a meeting with leaders of Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad (SKOP) at Srama Bhaban in the capital city on Wednesday (July 15) afternoon.

Mentioning that the working people are the worst sufferers amid the coronavirus outbreak, the state minister requested the employers not to lay off workers so that production remains normal and the wheel of the economy keeps rolling.

The SKOP leaders had earlier placed a demand to review the government's decision over the golden handshake to jute mill workers.

Over the issue, Begum Monnujan said the decision was taken for the wellbeing of jute mill workers and the development of the industry.

On completion of the liquidation process, those who have now been laid off will get priority in the recruitment process, she said.

Labour Secretary KM Abdus Salam, Inspector General of Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments Shivnath Roy, Director General of the Department of Labour AKM Mizanur Rahman, President of Jatiya Sramik League Fazlul Haque Montu, President of Bangladesh Trade Union Center Sahidullah Chowdhury, among others, were present at the meeting.
