The Payra seaport in Patuakhali is scheduled to receive the largest ship in the country’s history next month.

With a draft of 10.5 metres and a length of 225 metres, the vessel will be the largest one to ever dock at the country’s port in the first week of April, according to Khalid Mahmud, state minister for shipping.

He disclosed the information during a meeting at the secretariat on Wednesday. The meeting reviewed the implementation progress of the shipping ministry’s development projects taken under the annual development program (ADP) of the government and the organisation's own financing until February 2023.

Shipping Secretary Mostafa Kamal and Chairman of the Payra Port Rear Admiral M Sohail were present on the occasion. Many others joined the programme virtually.

Kamal said a total of seven ships will arrive at Payra port within this week. The capital dredging work of the port will be completed on March 26, making it more usable which will allow it to accommodate big ships regularly.

Markings and lights have been installed in the inner and outer bar of Payra port.
