Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Friday said the people of the country want development not terrorism.

"People want development, not terrorism. That is why they will stand by Sheikh Hasina and cast their votes for her in the next elections," he said.

The minister said these while addressing the Union Mohila Awami League's triennial conference on the Porsha High School and Madrasah premises in Naogaon as chief guest, a press release said.

The minister also said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had promised that she would provide electricity to every house and she did it.

Noting that 'Bir Nibas' (house) has been built for the brave freedom fighters, he said the premier has also raised their honorarium allowance.

Houses have been built for homeless people, he said, adding that allowances are being given to the elderly people and widows.

"There is no sector where the Prime Minister's assistance has not reached," he continued.

Sadhan said due to the timely action of the farmer-friendly government, there was no food crisis in the country.

"Farmers are getting fair price of their crops. But during the tenure of BNP, farmers were shot for fertilizer. Nineteen farmers lost their lives," he added.

Highlighting the present government's endeavours for the development of the country, he said the Sheikh Hasina-led government has completed the Padma Bridge and Metro Rail while the work of constructing underground train is underway.

In 2023, the people of the country will get the benefit of many more mega projects, he said.

The minister said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had repeatedly experienced imprisonment for the country and for the people of the country.

Bangabandhu was determined to get his rights, he said, adding that in continuation of that, Bangladesh became independent under his leadership.

"And under the leadership of his worthy daughter Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has become a middle income country," he said.

With Tetulia Union Mohila AL President Rezia Parveen in the chair, the conference was addressed, among others, by Naogaon District AL Senior Vice President Abdul Khalek, Porsha Upazila AL General Secretary Md Mofazzal Hossain Mollah, Porsha Upazila Parishad Chairman Shah Manjur Morshed Chowdhury and Porsha Mohila AL President Nasima Khatun.
