Former diplomat and secretary Waliur Rahman passed away on Wednesday. He was 80.

He died of cardiac arrest around 10:30am, family sources said.

His namaz-e-janaza will be held at Baitul Aman  Jame Mosque in Dhanmondi after Maghrib prayers.

Ambassador Rahman, born on December 26 in 1942, served as Special Envoy to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina (1997-1998).

He also served as Executive Director of the Bangladesh Institute of Law and International Affairs (BILIA).

He resigned from the Pakistan Government in 1971 and set up the Bangladesh Mission for the Bangladesh government in exile as a refugee for 9 months.
