Freelance photographer Syed Safiul Basher Ayon, better known as Syed Ayon, died Monday from Covid-19-induced complications while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital. He was 33.

Ayon breathed his last at the Bangladesh Institute of Health Sciences General Hospital at Mirpur in Dhaka.

He was tested positive for Covid on July 6 and was undergoing treatment at home. As his health condition deteriorated, he was admitted to Green Life Hospital in Dhaka on July 16 and later shifted to Bangladesh Institute of Health Sciences General Hospital.

He is survived by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Graduating from National University, Ayon mastered photography on his own and began to work as a freelance photographer.

He also contributed to Y Magazine, lifestyle magazine Canvass, the daily New Age’s supplements Joven and Trends, the daily Samakal, the daily Jugantar and NTV online as a contributing photographer.

 He was laid to rest at the Rayerbazar graveyard in Dhaka after namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer) at Adabar.

 So far, a total of 56 journalists have died of Covid-19 or Covid like symptoms in Bangladesh, according to journalists’ platform Our Media Our Rights.
