Photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol has been placed on a two-day remand by a virtual court in Dhaka in a case filed against him under the Digital Security Act.

After holding a virtual hearing through videoconferencing with the authorities of Keraniganj Central Jail, Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikary passed the order on Sunday.

The court also granted a shown arrested petition submitted by the investigation officer in the case filed with Hazaribagh Police Station.

Earlier, a Dhaka court on June 24 denied bail to the photojournalist in a case filed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station under the Digital Security Act (DSA).

The virtual court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mondol passed the order rejecting a bail petition filed by Kajol's counsel Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua.

He was shown arrested in the case on the day before.

The journalist had gone missing on March 10, a day after the case was filed by the Awami League's Magura-1 MP Saifuzzaman Shikhor.

Kajol and 30 others, including Manabzamin Editor Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, were accused in the case filed under the DSA over the publishing and sharing of a news article on social media regarding the expelled Jubo Mohila League leader Shamima Noor Papia.

Two other separate cases were filed against photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol with Kamrangirchar and Hazaribagh police stations under the DSA on March 10, 11.
