A Dhaka court has again rejected a bail petition of photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA).
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Emrul Kayesh passed the order on Monday after Kajol’s lawyer Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua submitted a criminal appeal against the lower court's rejection order.
The lawyer told the court that Kajol’s bail petition should be granted as he is very ill and one of his hands is paralysed.
Earlier on June 24, metropolitan magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mondol rejected Kajol's bail petition in the case. Later, on August 10, metropolitan magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury ordered jail authorities to provide him with better treatment.
Kajol went missing on March 10, a day after the case was filed by Awami League's Magura-1 MP Saifuzzaman Shikhor.
Two other cases were filed against the photojournalist with Kamrangirchar and Hazaribagh police stations under the DSA on March 10, 11.
On the 53rd day of his disappearance, Kajol was detained by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Benapole border in Jashore on May 3 and later, shown arrested on charges of trespassing.
He has been in Dhaka Central Jail after being arrested in cases lodged under the Digital Security Act.
