Photos of stray dog disposal are fake: DSCC

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has said the Facebook pictures showing its staff catching and disposing of dead stray dogs are fabricated.

DSCC made the statement in a press release on Saturday.

The corporation said that it will take legal action against those who are tarnishing the image of DSCC by disseminating the fabricated pictures.

There are a number of pictures circulating on Facebook about the removal of stray dogs from the capital by DSCC.

One picture shows a dog being killed and taken to an open truck and another shows many dead dogs being killed and left by the sewers.

The release signed by the corporation's Public Relations Officer Abu Naser said, “DSCC wants to inform that the pictures are completely fabricated and distorted.”

The corporation appealed to all citizens to refrain from promoting such pictures, it said.

Drawing attention to the pictures, the release pointed, “One of the pictures shows a truck is being used with the inscription of a ministry. But DSCC never uses any ministry vehicle. Therefore, the car must not belong to DSCC.”

Moreover, it said, DSCC anaesthetizes dogs before loading them on trucks during the removal operations. So there is no room for so many dogs to be vaccinated and left by the sewer.

Pointing out the background of another picture, the release said, “It is clearly a picture of a rural area – not Dhaka city. Moreover, this type of vehicle is not used by DSCC.”

DSCC has not killed or is killing any stray dogs, it claimed.

Furthermore, the corporation will take legal action against those spreading misleading pictures through the 'Digital Security Act 2018'.
