Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said this after the meeting of the 15th Bus Route Rationalisation Committee at Nagar Bhaban in the capital on Tuesday.
“Earlier, we decided to complete the pilot route from Ghatarchar up to Motijheel but it turned out that it might not be successful. So, now it’ll be extended up to Kachpur to bring discipline in the mass transport sector of the city,” Taposh, also the committee chief, said.
He said initially Tk 100 crore has been allocated for the bus route.
Mentioning that there is some misinformation about buses running in the fixed pilot route nowadays, he said the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority will upgrade the data of the pilot route within the next 15 days and the data of whole Dhaka will be upgraded by 90 days.
Around Dhaka’s 10 places were proposed to set up inter-district bus terminal. Taposh and DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam visited several points and decided to set up a terminal at Batulia and two in Hemayetpur for buses of northern routes.
“We’ve fixed two terminals at Baghair of Keraniganj and Kachpur for busses of southern areas. The terminals will reduce pressure on the city,” he added.
Taposh said the terminals of Sayedabad, Gabtoli and Mohakhali will be named City Terminal. A letter will be sent to the minister of road and transport within a short time.
“BRTC was asked to keep all buses in terminals by February 28. Bus fare will also be fixed. Our 16th meeting will be held on February 23,” he said.
