Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed authorities concerned to start Covid-19 vaccination programme at union and ward levels.
The minister said this to reporters after a cabinet meeting at the secretariat on Monday.
The Prime Minister had also directed to vaccinate the elderly because the fatality rate from the deadly infection is high among them, the minister said.
The minister also said all adult family members of Covid-19 frontline fighters would be vaccinated.
Bangladesh so far received 2,12,45,000 doses by four vaccine makers from various countries. Of these, 1,05,45,000 were Oxford-AstraZenca, 55 lakh Moderna, 51 lakh Sinopharm and 1 lakh Pfizer vaccines.
