Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Deputy Press Secretary (DPS) Ashraful Alam Khokan has resigned stating his desire to further his education.
He confirmed the matter on Sunday in an emotional public post on his verified Facebook page.
Khokan was awarded a scholarship at Hofstra University to study "Journalism, Media Studies, and Public Relations", an opportunity which he wishes to utilise for pursuing his ambition of studying further in the discipline of Journalism.
"After all, I have worked for several years in the media sector and want to continue with that profession in future," he said in his Facebook post.
Reminiscing ups and downs in his long seven and a half years' tenure as the Prime Minister's DPS since August 18, 2013, he wrote: "Today, February 28, 2021, I submitted my resignation from my position as contract-based recruitment does not qualify for educational leave."
Khokan expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and the government for the opportunity to study abroad by permitting him to go further with the scholarship.
He also thanked his current and former coworkers and everyone he met on his way to arrive where he is now, "...as through their motivation, guidance, and even criticism, I was able to learn a great deal that will aid me in the future," he wrote.
