Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has written a letter to US President Donald Trump to bring back the killers of Bangabandhu, said Foreign Affairs Minister A K Abdul Momen.
The minister came up with the remarks on Friday after paying homage and offering prayers at the tomb of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara in Gopalganj.
We hope that one more murderer of Bangabandhu will be brought back to the country and tried in Mujibborsho (the year of Mujib), said Minister Momen.
He further said that a project worth Tk 2,000 crore has already been undertaken on the instructions of the PM to utilize those who have returned to the country after being affected by Covid-19.
Asked by reporters whether the bodies of four Bangladeshis killed in a bomb blast in Beirut, Lebanon, would be brought back, the minister said, "We have no reason not to."
Apart from no direct flight from there to Bangladesh, the cost of bringing the body at the moment is much higher, about USD 12,000, Momn said, adding that even then the government is thinking about the matter.
99 Bangladeshis including 21 members of the navy were injured in the incident. At least 3 lakh people have become homeless there. Currently there is a food crisis.
The minister said, at the direction of the PM, the ministry have made arrangements to send flight laden with adequate dry food including rice, biscuits and noodles there which will depart at any moment.
