Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s life is under constant threat, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq said on Friday.

“So, the police have given special importance to the security of the prime minister centring the 22nd national council session of Awami League,” he told the media after visiting the council venue of Suhrawardy Udyan in the city.

Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Awami League, is scheduled to inaugurate the event on Saturday morning, while a good number of party leaders and activists from all over the country will attend the programme.

“The prime minister’s life is always at risk. There have been several attempts to kill her before... That is why we always consider her safety with utmost importance,” the DMP chief said.

Faruq said they have already deployed their forces to beef up security at the venue, while the special branch of police and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) are also working there.

Archways have been set up and CCTV cameras have been installed at the venue, he said, adding that they have made flawless security arrangements so that Awami League can hold the council session in a festive atmosphere.
