Militants have increased their capability in terms of making explosives recently and carrying out attacks, say law enforcers.
“The explosives that we have recovered recently are extremely powerful. These can cause huge fatalities if exploded,” said Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam.
“We think militants are preparing for carrying out sabotages and we are not sitting idle either,” he said during a press briefing on Tuesday.
The briefing was organised to brief the media on security measures during Eid vacation.
The DMP commissioner said that there is now little opportunity for people to go out due to the pandemic and this has led to an escalation to militant activities.
To counter this tendency, we have also increased our surveillance, he added.
Shafiqul said that the risk of robbery increase during Eid holidays as people leave the capital for village homes for vacation. However, law enforcers will be on guard, he said.
