Police have arrested three women, who used to work as maids in a house in capital’s Eskaton area, and recovered 31.04 bhoris of gold ornaments that were stolen from the house, from their possessions.
The three arrestees are - Tanjina Akter Faria, Kohinur Begum and Nazma Akter Laiju, reports BSS.
“One Rokhsana Mazumder on October 8, 2024, filed a case with Ramna Model Police Station against her three maids over the theft of 44 bhoris of gold ornaments and five diamond rings worth around Taka 52 lakhs from her Eskaton Garden house. A team of police taking the help of information technology, managed to arrest Faria and Kohinur on October 10 and Laiju the next day,” deputy commissioner (DC) of police’s Ramna zone Md Sarwar Jahan told newsmen at a press briefing held at DMP Media Centre on Saturday.
The Ramna DC further said Faria gave a confessional statement at the court, saying she along with the other two maids stole the ornaments from the house. Besides, Kohinur who was taken on a two-day remand gave information about eight shorts of gold. Police recovered the gold from the servant’s bedroom in the house of the victim.
“We also recovered 16.15 bhoris of gold ornaments from Laiju’s home. Following the information given by her, we recovered 2.12 bhoris of gold from Ananna Jewellers and 3.08 bhori from Nusrat Jewellers in Karwan bazar. We have so far recovered 31.04 bhoris of stolen gold ornaments,” DC Md Sarwar Jahan added.
Police are continuing their efforts to recover the remaining stolen jewellery and arrest other people, who were involved with the crimes.
