The police on Monday charged batons to disperse quota protesters who had gathered in different areas of Dhaka, and detained at least 20 people, ten from Mirpur-10 roundabout and Mirpur ECB Square, and another ten from Dhanmondi road number 2.

Mirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Munshi Sabbir and Assistant Commissioner of New Market Zone Refatul Islam confirmed the matter to the media.

It should be noted that the six coordinators of Boishommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon – currently in custody of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) – had announced the withdrawal of this movement on Sunday.

However, on behalf of other coordinators, coordinator Abdul Quader announced that he will hold a protest programme on Monday.

Demonstration programmes were planned in the city’s Science Lab, Gate No 8 of North South University, Jatiya Press Club, BNS Center in Uttara, Mirpur-10, ECB Chatter in Mirpur, Rampura and Mohakhali.

However, police were deployed in these areas since the morning. Along with the police, the army was also seen in some areas of the city. Apart from this, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) helicopters were seen patrolling the city.
