The police on Friday charged batons in the capital’s Shahbagh to disperse a group of demonstrators who demanded the age limit for government job seekers be increased to 35 years.
They blocked the road in the area under the banner of “Job-seeking Young Generation” and demanded the government increase the age limit as per the election manifesto.
The blockade disrupted the movement of vehicles and caused long traffic jams.
About half an hour later, the police, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Ramna zone) Haroon Or Rashid, dispersed the demonstrators by charging batons.
About 10 of them were injured and later given first aid at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
Shahbagh police station Officer-in-Charge Maudoot Howladar said the demonstrators were removed for safety reasons and there were no casualties.
