Police contingent leaves to join MINUSMA

A total of 140 members of Bangladesh Police have left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for Bamako, the capital of Mali, and Gundam, Timbuktu Region of the northern part of Mali on Friday night on a special flight to carry out duties in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).

Among the members of the mission, Deputy Commander M Jalal Uddin Ahmed Fahim has been leading 70 police members for the ninth rotation of Bangladesh Formed Police Unit (BANFPU)-1.

While Deputy Commander Mohammad Anwar Hossain is leading the rest 70 members for the fifth rotation of Bangladesh Formed Police Unit (BANFPU)-2, says a press release on Saturday afternoon.

It is noted that an advance team comprising 140 members of the two contingents had already reached the mission areas on February 17 last month.

Officers of the Police Headquarters’ Overseas and UN Operations wing saw off the peacekeepers bound for DR Congo at the airport.

Members of Bangladesh Formed Police Unit (BANFPU)-1 have been professionally serving the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Bamako, Mali since 2013. BANFPU-2, MINUSMA, Mali unit has been operating with a reputation in the Gundam area in the heart of the Sahara desert of Timbuktu Region in the northern part of Mali.
