Police on Wednesday claimed to have cracked the murder case of a four-month-old baby that took place five days ago in Adabar area of the capital city.

Parvin, 24, a neighbour, killed the baby girl in retaliation of previous hostility with her mother, police said.

Md Harun Or Rashid, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Tejgaon zone, made the disclosure at a press briefing at his office.

The baby, namely Sadia, daughter of Shahjahan and Murshida of the area, was murdered at her house around noon on July 3 when her mother was busy with cooking in the kitchen.

On information, Police went there and recovered the body. Later, the victim’s father filed a case at Adabar Police Station.

“After analysing the case, police suspected neighbour Parvina and arrested her on July 5,” said Harun Or Rashid.

While quizzing her in remand, she confessed her involvement in the murder and described how she killed the baby girl with a blade.

Later, she gave a confessional statement before a court.

The police official said Parvin and the victim’s mother were at loggerheads over some trifling matters.

Finally, Parvin killed the baby to teach her a lesson, police said.
