Police see major shuffle, SB & CID chiefs transferred

The police witnessed major changes on Tuesday as part of the process to reorganise the force, with two high-ranking police officers forced into retirement with immediate effect.

Besides, the heads of the Special Branch (SB) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have been transferred to the police headquarters. The Ministry of Home Affairs and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) issued separate notifications and orders in this regard.

According to a notification, Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RMP) Commissioner Md Moniruzzaman and Rangpur Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Md Abdul Baten have been sent into forced retirement from their positions by government decision.

Meanwhile, Additional Inspector General of Police (addl IGP) and Head of Special Branch (SB) of Police Monirul Islam have been attached to the police headquarters, while DIG of Railway Police Shah Alam has been appointed the head of SB.

CID chief Mohammad Ali Miah has been attached to the police headquarters.

On the other hand, Additional IGP Tawfique Mahbub Chowdhury has been made the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) chief.

Besides, 28 persons in the rank of Deputy Commissioner (DC) of DMP and Superintendent of Police (SP) of various districts have been reshuffled. Among them, 12 have been transferred as deputy commissioners (DC) in DMP.

One of the additional superintendents of police has been transferred as well.

Additional DIG Anwar Hossain has been transferred to a specialised training center in Khagrachari. Apart from this, seven more officers of additional DIG rank have been reshuffled.

Eighteen police inspectors including officers-in-charge (OCs) of several police stations including Uttar khan, Uttara West, Gulshan, Shahbagh, Paltan, Kadamtali, Motijheel, Mirpur, Pallabi, Tejgaon, and Tejgaon Industrial police stations in Dhaka have been transferred.

After Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister on August 5 and left the country, the interim government took over on August 8. Many police stations were damaged due to attacks and arson. Police officers and members went into hiding.

The interim government Home Affairs Adviser Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hussain has issued a deadline to all police personnel to rejoin duties by Thursday.

The traffic police started taking charge from August 12. As of Monday, 628 of the country's 639 police stations have started operations.

After the fall of the government there was a change in the top ranks of the police. Mainul Islam was appointed as Inspector General of Police (IGP) on August 7.
