Newly appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) for Cox’s Bazar Muhammad Rahmat Ullah said excessive policing will no longer be an issue in the tourist town, and firm action will be taken against police who harass people.
Making the remarks during a view exchange with journalists – including those from the Cox's Bazar Press Club – at the Police Superintendent’s office on Wednesday morning, Rahmat Ullah said, “The police will go above and beyond the people’s expectations.
“The force will serve with professionalism, and make every effort to win back the people’s trust.”
At the beginning of the speech, he commemorated sacrifices made by the Boishommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolon martyrs and hoped for speedy recovery of the injured.
Superintendent of Police Muhammad Rahmat Ullah pointed out, “Journalists are the mirror of society. Police and journalists have to work together, so that both shine in their duties. The SP's office and police stations will be free from middlemen and influencers.
“Information will be accessible to everyone.”
Press Club President Mahbubur Rahman, General Secretary Mumtaz Uddin Bahari, Shamsul Haque Sharek, Muhammad Abu Siddique Osmani, HM Ershad, Hasanur Rashid, Saifur Rahim Shaheen, Amanul Haque Babul, Mostafa Sarwar also spoke on the occasion.

Journalists said during the students’ movement, they stressed on speedy arrest of the miscreants who had fired at the procession and terrorised Cox’s Bazar, speedy reactivation of police stations, control of law and order situation and strengthening of police patrols to ensure safety of people, including tourists.
Last Sunday, as the new superintendent of police for Cox's Bazar, Muhammad Rahmat Ullah took over responsibilities from outgoing police superintendent Md Mahfuzul Islam.
Later, he exchanged skills with the senior officers of the district police, and exchanged views on the overall issue including the law and order situation and gave various important directions.
Earlier, when Superintendent of Police Muhammad Rahmat Ullah reached his office, he was welcomed and given a guard of honor by the Cox's Bazar District Police.
Rahmat Ullah previously had served as the Superintendent of Police of Mymensingh Region Highway Police. He is a resident of the Dhaka district. He passed SSC from Dhaka Armanitola Government High School in 1994 and HSC from Dhaka College in 1996.
Later he obtained Honors and MA degree in English Literature from Jagannath University.
Rahmat Ullah joined Bangladesh Police service as Assistant Superintendent of Police on 21st August 2006 through 25th BCS. He was then promoted to the post of Additional Superintendent of Police on March 6, 2013, and to the post of Superintendent of Police on November 7, 2018.
During his working life, he served as Circle ASP in Barguna District, Kishoreganj District, Moulvibazar District, Senior Assistant Director of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Additional Superintendent of Police in Habiganj District, SMP, Sylhet and Highway Police in Cumilla Region and lastly as Superintendent of Police in Mymensingh Region.
Besides, he has worked as the superintendent of police (Operation and Special Affairs) at Highway Police Headquarters, Dhaka.
