Police, RAB takes all measures to ensure security

Most of the people have left the capital for the Eid holidays. So, Dhaka is almost empty now. Criminals can take this opportunity. At this time, security measures have been put in place to prevent crimes like robbery, hijacking and home theft in Dhaka.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have taken all measures to ensure security in Dhaka.

DMP Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Khandaker Mahid Uddin told the reporter that they will have adequate measures to provide security to empty Dhaka. Check-posts will be strengthened along with patrolling teams. There will be a special team at the field level to suppress any crime in empty Dhaka.

Law enforcement agency members said that there were robberies, hijacks and thefts in Dhaka during the Eid holidays last year. The most talked about incident was Constable Moniruzzaman Talukder’s murder. He was killed by hijackers in Dhaka’s Farmgate area on the second day of the last Eid-ul-Azha holiday.

Keeping in mind the bitter experience of the past, RAB and police have taken different security measures to ensure the safety of the capital. Intelligence surveillance has already been increased.

Besides, special instructions have been given to 50 police stations of DMP to provide security in Dhaka during the Eid holidays to avoid any untoward incident. This instruction has been given from the headquarters of DMP. Several meetings have already been held under the leadership of DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman.

According to the instructions given to the officer-in-charges (OCs) of the police station, patrolling and check-posts have been ordered to be strengthened from a few days before the Eid holiday and till a few days after the Eid holiday.

Along with the police, RAB has also taken special security measures to provide security to empty Dhaka.

RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Arafat Islam said that many residents of Dhaka city went to villages for the Eid holidays. RAB has already prepared intelligence teams, check posts, robust patrol and patrol teams as well as special teams for some areas.

Various areas have been identified as red zones, where theft and robbery are more common. Intelligence surveillance has been increased in these red zones, he said.
