Ministry of Home Affairs has sought Taka 355.85 crore from the Finance Division for payment to the police as special allowance to increase motivation within the force.
With this move, on top of regular salary and bonus, all members of the police force will receive a special allowance equivalent to their 1 month’s basic salary every year for two years.
Additionally, in every third year, all police personnel will get an extra 1.5 month’s basic salary as special allowance along with provisions for recreational leave.
On October 14, during the "Police Week", the Prime Minister's Sheikh Hasina promised to provide one-month rest and recreation leave to police every year, according to an official of the finance division.
The Public Security Division under Home ministry on Thursday sent a proposal to Senior Finance Secretary Abdur Rouf Talukder signed by Deputy Secretary of Home Ministry Fazana Jaslim of the Finance Division to seek the said amount for police.
According to the proposal, each police personnel will annually receive one month based salary for two year and in the third year, a month basic salary and additional 15 days basic salary.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal over phone said, if finance division approves the proposal a notification in this regard will be issued in the gazette.
In April, to keep the morale in the police during the coronavirus pandemic, the government increased the monthly risk allowances of the police, ranking from constable to superintendent of police (SP).
Alongside the risk allowance, known as special allowance, other monthly allowances – including the unconditional conveyance allowance, telecom allowance, acting allowance, motorcycle allowance, and daily meal allowance – have been raised for cops holding the ranks of constable to assistant superintendent of police (ASP).
As per that gazette notification, the monthly special allowance of constables and guard constables was raised from Taka 45 to Taka 300.
Police members ranking as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), and ASI (armed) also an enjoyed a Taka 255 rise in their monthly special allowance that had been Taka 45.
Meanwhile, the risk allowance of ASI with armed police and metropolitan police had enhanced from Taka 60 to Taka 300; that of ASIs posted in district special branch (SB), the armed police battalion and police training institutes was raised from Taka 75 to Taka 500.
