Police is taking strict measures from Saturday (April 18) onwards to ensure social distancing in Dhaka against the backdrop of coronavirus spread, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) sources said.
Policemen on the ground said they had a long list of tasks concerning combating coronavirus countrywide.
They are as follows: ensuring social distance to prevent spread of infection, disinfecting pesticides on the street, assisting wage earners, distributing safety items, ensuring medical treatment to those who were deprived of it otherwise, delivering essentials to people in need door to door, tracking down those who fled from home quarantine and controlling public movement in lockdown areas.
DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said, “We are trying to stay beside the people as much as possible. Now, this has become a very important task for the police”.
