Amid the deepening crisis of marketing livestock items such as fish, milk, egg and poultry goods due to the countrywide lockdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic, ministry of fisheries and livestock has come to the rescue of marginalised producers and entrepreneurs.
The ministry on Wednesday, instructed the department of fisheries and department of livestock services to take effective measures, having collected from producers, to sell fish, milk, egg and poultry to every district and upazila.
A letter to this effect was also sent to every district commissioner’s office.
The ministry letter read, “Due to the disruption of the supply chain, consumers are deprived of necessary fisheries and livestock items, while producers are incurring losses as the country remains in a lockdown state. We are instructing all district and upazila level offices to collect fisheries and livestock items from producers and then market them locally."
The letter also said that steps should be taken in coordination with local administrations, the help of Fisheries and Livestock Association, entrepreneurs and farmers.
To ensure the quality of the products, a team comprising of a veterinary surgeon, sanitary inspector and veterinary compounder was formed in every district to earn the confidence of consumers and ensure the quality of milk.
