Preacher Abu Twa Haa Muhammad Adnan, who reappeared on Friday after being missing for eight days, was hiding at his friend's house in Gaibandha for personal reasons, said Rangpur police during a press conference.
Rangpur Intelligence Police (Detective Branch) held the press conference at around 5:30pm after questioning him regarding his disappearance.
His companions were also found with Adnan, said Rangpur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (crimes) Abu Maruf Hossain at the briefing.
Adnan will remain in police custody for the time being, he added.
Adnan was found at his father-in-law's house on Friday. He was taken to the Rangpur DB office at around 3:30pm.
Adnan, his driver and two companions were missing since June 10. They were on their way to Dhaka from Rangpur.
Before going missing, Adnan last made contact with his family after his arrival in Dhaka's Gabtali area from Rangpur on the day.
