President Mohammed Shahabuddin, who took oath as the head of the state on Monday, paid rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, by placing a wreath at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road No 32 in Dhaka on Tuesday.
As the 22nd president of Bangladesh, valiant Freedom Fighter Shahabuddin paid homage to Bangabandhu, the greatest Bangali of all time.
A smartly turned out contingent drawn from the Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force presented the state salute on the occasion, as the bugles played the last post.
After placing the wreath, the head of the state stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect for the memory of the country's founding father.
The president also visited the Bangabandhu museum and watched a holographic video there. He also signed the visitors' book there.
Later, President Shahabuddin paid his rich tribute to the martyrs of the historic Language Movement by placing a wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital.
He stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the Language heroes who embraced death for the sake of mother tongue Bangla.
President pays homage to Liberation War heroes
Earlier in the morning, President Shahabuddin paid glowing tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War by placing a wreath at the National Memorial in Savar on the outskirts of the capital.
The head of the state placed the wreath at the altar of the National Memorial around 11:40am for the first time after assuming the office as the 22nd president.

The country was liberated from the Pakistani occupation forces on December 16 in 1971 after a nine-month bloodstained Liberation War. The president also signed the visitors’ book kept on the memorial premises.
President goes to Tungipara Wednesday
President Mohammed Shahabuddin is scheduled to pay his homage by placing a wreath at the mausoleum of Bangabandhu in Tungipara of Gopalganj around 12:30pm Wednesday.
A smartly turned out contingent drawn from the army, navy and air force will give a guard of honour there.
The president's motorcade will reach Tungipara via Padma Bridge. He will return to Dhaka by the afternoon.
President Shahabuddin will offer fateha and join a munajat seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of Bangabandhu as well as other martyrs of the August 15 carnage.
He will sign the visitors' book kept on the mausoleum premises.
