President, PM mourn death of AG Mahbubey Alam

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Bangladesh Government’s chief legal adviser Attorney General (AG) Mahbubey Alam.

In a condolence message, the President said Mahbubey Alam had shown extraordinary skill in handling the different cases, including Bangabandhu murder and crimes against humanity ones.

“He was a front-fighter in establishing the rule of law . . . His death is an irreparable loss to the country,” he said.

The head of the state also conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

In her message of condolence, the premier said, “The nation will always recall the contribution of former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association Mahbubey Alam to the country’s law arena.”

Sheikh Hasina also said that he had played an efficient role in dealing many important national legal matters as an eminent lawyer of the country.

He always devoted himself to the law profession upon justice which will be remembered forever with due respect.

The Prime Minister prayed for salvation of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

The state’s chief legal officer breathed his last at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) around 7:25 this evening.
