President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of Bangla Academy chairman and former director-general Shamsuzzaman Khan.
In a condolence message, the President said the people of Bangladesh will remember the contributions of Shamsuzzaman Khan in the field of Bengali language and literature with respect.
The President prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extended his deepest condolences to his bereaved family.
“The Swadhinata Padak and Ekhushey Padak winner researcher focused on the country's folk culture, tradition and literature through this unique research works which will encourage researchers in the future”, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in a condolence message.
She said that Prof Shamshuzzaman Khan contributed enough in editing and publishing Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's books ‘The Unfinished Memoirs’, ‘The Prison Diaries’ and ‘The New China as I Saw’.
"Shamshuzzaman Khan will be remembered for his quality of works," she said.
She prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
Bangla Academy chairman and eminent folklorist Shamsuzzaman Khan breathed his last around 2:00pm Wednesday at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital.
He was infected with COVID-19 and had old-age complications.
