President, PM pay homage to Bangabandhu

President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 104th birth anniversary coinciding with the National Children's Day-2024.

The president and the prime minister paid their homage by placing wreaths at the mausoleum of Bangladesh's founding father at Tungipara of Gopalganj district at 10:38am.

President Shahabuddin first laid a wreath at Bangabandhu's grave followed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

After placing the wreaths, they stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect for the memory of the Bangabandhu.

A smartly turned-out contingent drawn from the Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force gave an honour guard on the occasion.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's younger daughter and PM's younger sister Sheikh Rehana and other family members were present.

Flanked by senior leaders of the ruling Awami League (AL), Sheikh Hasina, also the president of AL, placed another wreath at the grave of Bangabandhu on behalf of her party.

Mohammed Shahabuddin and Sheikh Hasina also offered Fateha and joined a munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu as well as other martyrs of the August 15 carnage.

Cabinet members, PM's advisers, parliament members and AL senior leaders were present.

The president and the prime minister signed the visitor's book kept on the mausoleum premises as well.

Meanwhile, on his arrival on the mausoleum premises, President Mohammed Shahabuddin was received by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Earlier at 7 in the morning, the premier paid homage to the greatest Bangalee of all times by placing a wreath at his portrait in front of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka.

The prime minister later released a commemorative postage stamp, a first-day cover, and a data card at her official Ganabhaban residence here marking the 104th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu.

The birthday of Bangabandhu is being celebrated across the country as the National Children's Day for many years.

On this day in 1920, Bangabandhu, the leader of the Bangalee nation and the architect of the independent Bangladesh was born in a respected Muslim family in Tungipara village of Gopalganj sub-division, now district.

President hosts milad on Bangabandhu's birth anniversary

President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Sunday hosted a special doa and milad mahfil at Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban after Zohr prayers, marking the 104th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the "National Children's Day- 2024".

A special munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his deceased family members, who were brutally assassinated on the fateful night of August 15 in 1975, reports BSS.

Pesh Imam of Bangabhaban Jam-e-Masjid Mufti Maulana Saiful Kabir conducted the munajat and milad mahfil.

Doa was also offered seeking divine blessings for peace and prosperity of the country, welfare of the people and greater unity of the Muslim Ummah across the world.

Earlier, on the occasion a brief discussion on the life and works of Bangabandhu was held here at noon.

President's Secretary Md Wahidul Islam Khan, Military Secretary Major General SM Salah Uddin Islam and Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin spoke there.

They highlighted various aspects of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu's political career.

They urged everyone to work unitedly to implement the activities undertaken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to materialize Bangabandhu's dream to build a hunger-free "Sonar Bangla".

Before this, a video on the life and works of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was screened.

President's family members, secretaries concerned, civil and military officials and employees of the Bangabhaban attended the munajat.
