The discomfort of the buyers in the daily commodity market has increased as prices of vegetables, raw chillies, chicken along with potatoes and onions have gone up.
During the week, the price has gone up by 5 taka per kg for potatoes and 20 taka per kg for onions. The price of chicken has also increased by 10-15 taka per kg. The information was obtained by visiting various markets in the capital on Friday (September 11).
Turning to the various market, it can be seen that the price of onion has gone up to 20 taka per kg. For the last few months, onions were being sold at 30 to 45 taka per kg but now the price has gone up anew. The price of imported onion has increased by 10 taka per kg and being sold at 45 to 50 taka per kg while the local onion is being sold at 60-70 taka per kg.
Besides, the price of ginger has gone up to 250 taka per kg. At the same time, local garlic is being sold at 100 to 120 taka per kg and the price of imported garlic has increased by 70 to 80 taka. However, the price of raw chillies has come down a bit during the week. At present, the price of raw chilli has been declined by 20-40 taka per kg to 160-180 taka per kg.
The price of per kg of potato has increased by 5 taka and is being sold at 40 taka per kg. In this regard, Yunus Ali, a trader of Karwan Bazar warehouse said, now it is not the potato season. Potatoes stored in many godowns have been damaged due to rains. The supply of potatoes in the market is less than the demand now. So the price has gone up a bit. However, the price will go down if new potatoes come up in a few days.
At the same time, all kinds of fruits and vegetables witnessed an increase in prices. Per kg Balsam apple is being sold at 90-100 taka, pointed gourd at 50-60 taka, brinjal at 70-80 taka, asparagus bean at 70-80 taka, snake gourd at 50-60 taka, ridge gourd at 60-70 taka and sweet bitter gourd at 50-60 taka, arum-lobe at 60-65 taka, green papaya at 40-50 taka and raw bananas at 90-100 taka per dozen. Besides, per kg ripen tomatoes are being sold at 110-120 taka, hybrid cucumbers at 40-50 taka and carrots at 80-90 taka.
Meanwhile, Broiler chickens are being sold at 130 to 140 taka per kg showing an increase by 10 taka from last week. Borkot Ullah, a chicken trader in Karwan Bazar, said now the price of broiler has gone up slightly in the wholesale market. So it has to be sold at a slightly higher price. Besides, Red layer chicken is being sold at 220 taka, white layer chicken at 180 taka per kg, golden chicken at 240 to 250 taka per kg and domestic chicken at 550 taka per kg.
However, the prices of beef and mutton remain stable. Beef is being sold at 500-550 taka per kg and mutton at 700-750 taka per kg in these markets. Per dozen broiler eggs are being sold at 105-110 taka, domestic chicken eggs at 150-160 taka and duck eggs at 130 to 140 taka.
