Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Tuesday said the key accused whose action triggered the recent violence in Cumilla has been identified.

“We will be able to arrest the key accused in a very short time and will disclose his motive,” the minister added while addressing a programme as the chief guest titled ‘Technological Modernisation of RAB’ at the force's headquarters.

The accused is repeatedly changing location since he hid himself following the incident, Asaduzzaman said.

Asaduzzaman further said “Some extremists tried to destabilise communal harmony in the country and vandalized a Hindu temple in Chandpur. Five people died there and another succumbed to his injuries at a hospital today.”

“Who were behind the violence? What were their purposes behind the destructions and deaths?” the minister asked.

Besides, attempts were made to destabilize the situation in Ramu, Nasirnagar and Bhola spreading rumours through social networking site Facebook, he said.

Referring to a murder that took place on May 16 in the capital's Pallabi where two men were brutally hacked to death, the minister said, “By spreading video footage of the incident, a vested group is spreading propaganda that Jatan Saha was killed in a similar way. The matter is very sad, disgusting and inhuman,” he said.

Asaduzzaman said “I am warning those who are trying to take advantage of such propaganda. They must be found. Law enforcement will find and punish them appropriately. They have to answer why they are destroying communal harmony and peace.”

He requested media workers to verify the authenticity of videos of such incidents.

“Please curb your excitement. Don't do wrong just by provoking,” the minister urged journalists.
