A Dhaka court has fixed March 28 for the submission of an investigation report by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) against Regent Group Chairman Mohammad Shahed alias Shahed Karim and 16 others in a case filed over issuing fake Covid-19 certificates and illegally charging patients for testing and treatment.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shahinur Rahman set the new date as the investigation officer concerned failed to submit the probe report on Monday.
On July 15 last year, members of RAB arrested Mohammad Shahed from Shakhra Komorpur border in Debhata upazila of Satkhira district on charge of issuing fake Covid-19 certificates.
Earlier, law enforcers raided the Mirpur and Uttara branches of Regent Hospital on July 6 last year over allegedly issuing fake Covid-19 certificates and charging the admitted patients exorbitant fees. The Regent Group head office along with both the hospitals was sealed off and 16 people, including the chairman, were sued.
On September 28, 2020, a Dhaka court sentenced Mohammad Shahed to lifetime imprisonment in an arms case.
