Former vice-chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University and eminent political scientist Professor Emajuddin Ahamed passed away at the age of 87.
He died at Lab Aid Hospital in the capital around 6 am on Friday.
BNP central executive committee member Abu Naser Muhammad Rahmatullah confirmed the information to The Business Post.
He said Prof Emajuddin Ahamed was admitted to Lab Aid Hospital in the capital after had a stroke at 2 am on Thursday.
His funeral prayer will be held at Bajme Kaderia Jame Mosque adjacent to his residence in the capital's Kantaban area after Friday's congregational prayer, Prof Ahamed's daughter Dr Dil Raushan Jinnat Ara Nazneen, professor of Political Science at the DU, confirmed The Business Post.
He later will be buried next to his late wife at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard, she added.
Prof Emajuddin Ahamed, known as a pro-BNP intellectual, was born on 15 December 1932. He taught at the Department of Political Science in DU for almost two and a half decades. He was the head of the department, the provost of Muhsin Hall, the proctor of the DU, then the pro-vice-chancellor and finally the vice-chancellor from 1992 to 1996. After a six-year hiatus, he joined the University of Development Alternative in 2002 as the vice-chancellor.
He researched on comparative politics, administration, politics of Bangladesh, foreign policy of Bangladesh, military forces of South Asia for over 40 years. He was also well-known as an expert in these fields throughout South Asia. He wrote more than fifty books and has hundreds of published research articles in renowned journals at home and abroad.
