The Bangladesh Political Science Network (BPSN), a platform of political science teachers and researchers of the country, was formed aiming to increase the professionalism and cognitive excellence of its members in the country.

It was formed at a meeting held at Bangladesh Asiatic Society in the capital on Saturday with political scientist and former National University (NU) vice-chancellor Prof Harun-or-Rashid in the chair.

Political science teachers from various universities in Bangladesh and individuals engaged in research work at various institutions with high degrees in political science were present at the meeting.

After the meeting, the journey and the new committee of the organisation were announced at a press conference.

A total of 21-member Executive Committee was formed to manage the activities of the association for the next two years (2023-2025).

Prof Harun-or-Rashid and Prof Sabbir Ahmed of Dhaka University were elected as president and general secretary respectively of the BPSN.

The four vice-presidents are – Prof Nasim Akhtar Hossain (Jahangirnagar University), Prof Mahfuzul Haque Chowdhury (VC of Independent University Chittagong), Prof Al Masud Hasanuzzaman (Jahangirnagar University), and Dr Jalaj Feroze (former director of Bangla Academy).

Other office-bearers are – Joint Secretary Prof Govinda Chakraborty of Dhaka University, Treasurer Prof Muhammad Sohrab Hossain of Dhaka University, and Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Sharif Ahmad Chowdhury, director of the Bangladesh Institute of Democracy and Development.

The elected members are Prof Md Ansar Uddin of Rajshahi University, Prof Bhuiyan Md Manowar Kabir of University of Chittagong, Prof Nasima Khatun of Dhaka University, Prof Shamsunnahar of Jahangirnagar University, Prof Rafiqul Islam of Dhaka University, Prof SM Hasan Zakirul Islam of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Dr Ferdous Zaman of University Grants Commission, Dr Mamun Al Mustafa of Dhaka University, Dr Nivedita Roy of Jagannath University, Dr Asma Bint Iqbal of Jagannath University, Nazia Arefa of Jagannath University, and Shariful Islam of Begum Rokeya University.
