Jahangirnagar University professor and political analyst Tareque Shamsur Rehman was found dead at his residence at Rajuk Uttara Apartment Project on Saturday.
Confirming the matter, Rajuk Uttara apartment project director Mozaffar Ahmed said, "The housemaid came for work and rang the bell in the morning, Dr Tareque did not answer. That's when she called the building security and they called the police."
Officer-in-charge of Turag police station Mehedi Hasan said the body was recovered after breaking the door of the flat.
Police were collecting evidence from the spot, he added.
Tareque Shamsur Rehman, a former member of the Bangladesh University Grants Commission, was a professor and former chairman of the Department of International Relations at Jahangirnagar University.
