Protesters have set fire to the gate of Bangladesh Television (BTV) bhaban in the city Rampura area. The fire was set at around 3:30pm on Thursday.

Earlier this morning, the protesters set fire to the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Rampura Traffic Police.

Protesters have been clashing with the police in Rampura-Bada area since this morning. Around 10am, protesting students took up a position in front of BRAC University in Merul Badda of the capital, demanding quota reforms.

Later, when the police tried to remove students from the road, a chase and counter-chase started. At that time, the police tried to disperse the protesters by throwing tear gas. A person named Dulal Matbar was killed during unrest.

On Wednesday, the Boishommo Birodhi Chhatra Andolan announced a “Complete Shutdown” programme as part of the ongoing quota reform movement, protesting the killing of students and indiscriminate attack by the police.

Asif Mahmud, one of the coordinators of the protest, had announced this programme on his Facebook.

According to the announcement, everything - except hospitals and emergency services - have been declared closed on Thursday. Besides, no vehicles will be allowed to ply the road, except ambulances.
